did the commonwealth use SMLE based Sniper rifles?

For sure during WWI and I would imagine the early stages of WWII.
IIRC, the ANZAC forces, particularly the Aussies, used SMLE based snipers well into WWII, if not later.

Got a big book all about German sniper rifles and it briefly covers them, but I am sure there is a lot more information out there.

Yes they used scope mounted SMLE's esp during WW1 but they developed a sniper version of the Pattern 14 ( No3 Mk I* (T)  ) that was better and that was used more often and into WW2.

Original SMLE sniper rifles are EXTREMELY rare.

Yes. Very very few survive. Most of the ones that do are Australian HT rifles.

More than that.  Complete No. 4 Mk. 1(T)s are in that range.

Aussie HT rifles will sell in that range, I've seen them at that price.

WWI SMLE snipers... no.
