Still need to attach the original latch hardware from the original top, and add the locking hasp, but otherwise this is it.

Yaaaaaaa.... Pshhh... That [what appears to be] 1909 Argie is better than any Mosin. No sir. VZ24 with crest intact. SGL, it's rope lights. Needs a few more clips though. They go minimal with what they put in the package.... |

Very nice! Now I know what to do with my Swiss Vetterli. I want to get a bayonet for it too, that would make a nice display piece. I doubt that a Vetterli would fit in a Mosin crate. I know I tried to stick my 96/11 in mine and it was a few inches too long for it. I think the Vetterli is about the same length. |

Looks good and a lot like mine. (Well except mine is full of mosins) I too put rope lighting in but it is too bright and too white. I am going to replace it with different lighting in a warmer tone. I used this in mine Sylvania Mosaic You can adjust the brightness and it has 16 different colors. One of the light blue colors made a nice warm even glow inside the whole crate. It's remote control too FWIW. |

Nicely done!!
The bottom of the crate needs a crate or 2 of ammo, some bayonets, etc. BTW, a Vetterli won't fit the 91/30 crates (unless it's the 1871 Kavallerie). Perhaps removing the wood stops at muzzle and butt ends would open it up enough, but it will be v. close. |

I can cut a hole in the end of the case and let the tip of the barrel and the bayonet stick out..... |

As for the bottom of the crate.....that will be getting addressed forthwith, worry not. Although it won't just be a plain ol' ammo crate. That's entirely too uncreative for someone like me....someone who asks his wife randomly to take pictures like this:
Let's do this! by Armed Ferret, on Flickr Knowing that I have that Afghan Martini.....I promise there's other fun stuff I acquired over a couple tours that will likely be a part of this ensemble. That's the project for this afternoon. First things first, getting the rope lighting a little more secure (had to go buy more clips) and then installing the original latch hardware to the top as well as a small hasp/lock (painting it first). Then I'll get to work on the bottom portion. |
Done.

For God's sake, put them in there straight! Looks good. I built a similar "trunk" that sits at the end of the bed. Lid is not see through, but other than that looks almost identical. "I have CDO. It's kinda like OCD but the letters are in alphabetical order, as they should be." My first thought when I saw the pic was "Oh, I have to get in there and set those up straight."

Where did you get the crate from? Don't tell me I have to buy 20 M91/30s... I only had to buy 9, since that's all the dealer had left in that crate. However, my CDO required I buy a 10th to fill up the row, and then a PU sniper showed up, followed by a very nice 1930 hex, and then my wife found one, and then... |
