Still need to attach the original latch hardware from the original top, and add the locking hasp, but otherwise this is it.

I know I tried to stick my 96/11 in mine and it was a few inches too long for it. I think the Vetterli is about the same length. |

I too put rope lighting in but it is too bright and too white. I am going to replace it with different lighting in a warmer tone. I used this in mine Sylvania Mosaic You can adjust the brightness and it has 16 different colors. One of the light blue colors made a nice warm even glow inside the whole crate. It's remote control too FWIW. |

The bottom of the crate needs a crate or 2 of ammo, some bayonets, etc. BTW, a Vetterli won't fit the 91/30 crates (unless it's the 1871 Kavallerie). Perhaps removing the wood stops at muzzle and butt ends would open it up enough, but it will be v. close. |

I can cut a hole in the end of the case and let the tip of the barrel and the bayonet stick out.....

As for the bottom of the crate.....that will be getting addressed forthwith, worry not. Although it won't just be a plain ol' ammo crate. That's the project for this afternoon. First things first, getting the rope lighting a little more secure (had to go buy more clips) and then installing the original latch hardware to the top as well as a small hasp/lock (painting it first). Then I'll get to work on the bottom portion. |
