So, I stopped into Gander Mountain today just because I was near one. They did not have a lot and most was way overpriced. However, what I saw behind the counter on the wall almost floored me. A No.4 Mk.I Enfield for 1,449.00...
Yep, a 1943 Maltby for 1,449.00. Some of the parts were FTR and the front band was LB marked. The only nice thing about it was the stock looked new- an obvious replacement. I have two unissued No.4 Mk.I 1950 Canadian Enfields that only cost me 250.00 each back when I bought them.
What the hell is going on?

Mis-placed the "." maybe?  You should ask the fella at the counter if he has the blue book of gun values handy.

Then ask him why the price is 7 to 10 times the book value.

I went to the GM in RKFD an asked if they had any S&W Shields.  Was told S&W was behind on orders by 40 k which was what they said last November.  So I went to a forum, found a ''who has Shields'' thread and ordered one the next day from Kittery Trading Post in ME. The total was a bit less than buying it here.

Places like Gander Mountain and Bass Pro Shops are usually silly overpriced on stuff like that.  Most of the people who work there are dumb@$$3$ who don't know $#!+ or even how to look up the blue book on something like that.  While nice Lee Enfields have gone up in price from when you bought yours, what you describe at GM, that one should be about 1/3 what they are asking for it or less.

Going off historical PMag valuations... their Bluebook is 3mo behind at Gander Mt. it appears.

Sometimes they don't know/care what they have and you can get a deal.  I picked up a French Mle 16 Berthier rifle (5 shot magazine) that was in good shape with no import mark for $200 at the Cabelas in Hazelwood MO.
