| Say an 03 FFL wanted to terminate their license. Could they transfer recorded stock to themselves as individuals before terminating the license? Would they need a 4473 for each firearm? |
| I believe the only time you need to "transfer" a C&R firearm to yourself is if you have a C&R firearm that you had purchased prior to obtaining a C&R license which you intend to transfer to someone else durring the period you have a C&R license. You would log the firearm into the log book from yourself, and then out again to the recepient. |

There isn't really an option to "terminate" your license from the FFL holder's side. The only time you need to transfer a firearm to yourself is if you as a current licensee are transferring a C&R eligible firearm to someone else which you had acquired prior to becoming licensed. Then you'd transfer it from your "personal collection" into your bound book, then transfer it out of your bound book to the buyer. C&R FFL licensees never need to complete a 4473 for a C&R eligible firearm, nor are they required to make someone they sell a firearm to fill one out. All they need to do is fill in the buyer's information in the disposition portion of their bound book. So anyway, you can just let your license expire. At that time you no longer need to maintain the bound book and you can destroy it if you so choose. You do not need to send it to BATFE nor do you need to transfer anything out of that book. |
