Hey found a local Garand up for sale and wanted some advice.  They are asking $725 for it and the throat gauges 2.5 and muzzle is a 2.  Date of production is jan 1944.

What do you all think? Is this a good deal or should I keep looking?

Thanks,
Jester

CMP.  You never know whether you are getting a re-welded receiver when you buy from a private individual.

You can get a Garand that's been checked out and certified through CMP.

$725 is a decent price on the secondary market if rifle checks out. If rifle is Import Marked I would deduct $100 from the price

Yes, being active or reserve military satisfies both the club and training requirements for the purchase of a CMP rifle. You will still need to bring proof of citizenship(birth certificate). Call ahead to confirm what you need to bring, all the info you need is at WWW.odcmp.com.
