That would be a Israeli K98 in 7.62

Very Nice!  I have been looking semi-seriously (waiting for a real deal price wise) for one of these.  May I ask what you paid?

That is a nice FN made rifle. Israel switched in 1956 to .308 Winchester after adopting the FAL. FN made many K98ks in .308, the older K98ks in 8x57IS that were already in use had the barrels changed. Santa Barbara had produced a nice lot of .308 rifles for Israel but the contract got cancelled and the virtually new reifles were sold on the civilian market.

My K98 is a dot 1945 that was rebarreled and reconditioned before being put to service until the 1970s, it has the typical replacement stock with the fingergroove and is a wild mix of parts but an excellent shooter.

jakjak,

this isn't my first K98k, at one time I had quite a little collection of German K98ks but have only the three best shooters left now. This one shoots with them and the .308 gives me a much wider bullet selection. The days when I bought 1,000 round of surplus 8x87IS for $60 are long over.

You got a great rifle to get immersed into the world of Mausers. Enjoy it at the range!

Hope it shoots well. Mine shot about 10" to the right at 100 yards with the front sight centered.
