Hi Guys,
My grandfather gave me a whole bunch of his guns that he bought back in the late 80's early 90's, during his collecting/refinishing days. They were all ones that he bought to clean and restore, but never got around to them (He hasn't given me the nice ones...yet  ). Anyways, the one in question is a Carcano (I think) of some sorts, but all the info I have found is on a carbine length rifle. This is definitely not carbine length, so I haven't really been able to identify the model. It is import marked, but it looks like a drunken monkey marked it, because its completely illegible. The only thing that I can make out is that it might be 6.5 caliber. For the most part everything is in good shape, but there is some heavy pitting under the barrel(see pics). Is this going to affect function? I'm not really to big on having non-functioning guns, but it does have sentimental value, so, it can be a wall hanger. Anyways, without further adieu, the pictures of said rifle (ignore missing parts, I forgot to take pictures of the complete rifle before take down).

Well there is some pitting. But it does not look deep at all. Probably safe to shoot. Does show a lot of grime and cosmoline though.
Is it in the original caliber? Some carcanoes were converted to 8mm Mauser; not sure how stout the action is when it comes to 8mm & you might not want to shoot those. Otherwise, the Carcanos are great shooters with original ammo. |

Model 1891, made in 1918. Somewhere along the way, someone cut down the stock sadly.
Should be in 6.5 still. also, the rear site flips over to produce a battle site, I think it is at 200 or 300 meters, as apposed to the 600 meter setting you are showing. Take it out, lotsa fun to shoot and marginal recoil. With the right ammo, they can be fairly accurate |
