Don't expect it to be a tight grouped shooter like a finely tuned match built M1.  You'll be able to land rounds on a man sized target with relative ease if you do your part

Just remember to load your ammo to meet the pressure curve for M1 rifles or get an adjustable gas plug.

I personally would wait for a service grade when they pull more out.

Absolutly not, I have personally handled many, many hundreds of FG at the North Store and most of them will swallow a Muzzle Gauge.
It is possible to find a good one or two mixed in but would NEVER mail order a FG
Basically they are canidates for rebarrel.
Go with a Service Grade when they come back in stock or  better , you wont be dissapointed

Definitely wait for a service grade, unless like the above poster said you are able to hand select a rifle at the north or south store and check the muzzle and throat erosion.  I have two service grades that are essentially like new and a Winchester field grade that was hand selected for me.  Doing a luck of the draw mail order on a field grade will not get you what you are looking for.

Agreed with the above 100%. I have been to the NS several times and handled almost as many with the same experience. I found one with ME and TE both less than 1, but that was one of more than 50 in the store at that time. Nearly all the others swallowed ME gauges.

Service grade is worth your time and money.
