I bought a K98 but it has no import marks...all numbers are mismatch. It is a 43 dot. doesnt have the nasty Russian shellac like most captures. I bought it around 1997 but cant remember what i paid for it. Can anyone tell me where it came from. Doesnt have a cleaing rod or sight hood. it is stamped DA on the barrel. stock has a 655 number on it. Mag plate, stock, bolt handle all have different numbers. Stock looks laminated. Serial is 1114. Eagles are still intact.

K98k rifles have been available commercially for DECADES. Prior to the Russian war reparation rifles there were Yugo and Czech rifles as well as rifles built from parts (mis-match of course).

In about 1990 you could buy an excellent condition K98k with new barrel for $150 from Century Arms.

And there were K98k available on the U.S. market prior to Dec. 1, 1969 when no import marks were required. So you can't automatically assume that because a particular K98k has no import marks that it's a "capture" rifle or soldier war trophy. T'ain't so.

Can you post pictures? That may help to sort it out, but it may not. Dutch is right. However, I don't see where anybody has "assumed" anything, yet.
