| Hello I am not sure if this is where this goes but it’s worth a try I inherited a Tokarev SVT-40 from my grandfather about ten years ago I have problems with it ejecting spent cases I have not touched the gas system on it due stories I have read that recommend against it any information would be appreciated. |

AFAIK all surplus 7.62x54R ammunition is corrosive so it is necessary to clean the gas system EVERY time you shoot the rifle.
I suspect you have a corroded or dirty gas system and and/or chamber. You need to take a look, try to clean the rifle with Hoppes No. 9 or other cleaner designed for corrosive primers. Here is some reading for you: Mosin-Nagant.Net SVT-38 and 40 Section Here are some manuals: http://207.36.233.89/svt40/rifle/pdf/svt40rifle.pdf http://www.gunownersresource.com/manuals/combloc/Tokarov_SVT.pdf HTH, dcat |

Yes, proceed caustiously. You will need to get the special tool for the gas system to adjust it. Don't force it. Untill you get to the point you can disassemble and lube
the gas system please liberaly coat it with CLP or somthing. Read the info at Mosinnagant.net as the other poster gave you carefully. Once you get it cleaned and ready to shoot it is sometimes just a setting for specific ammo. I have one and it is one of my prized posessions. |

Ok thank you all for the information I will get the gas tool and probably just replace the whole gas system while I am at.
I have to say the group of people that are on this website are the most helpful people I have ever met, kinds of seems that most firearms enthusiast are nice people. |

Do not just go at the gas adj with the tool !
If it hasn't been moved in a long time let it soak with some penetrating oil than remove the hanguard and piston rod and unscrew the gas piston from gas block... than change the gas setting and retighten the piston and re-assemble rifle. |
