I just brought my first Mosin  Nagant and having a problem with it.  When I put the bolt into the it and work the action when empty, it work just fine.  But when I tried to put a round into the chamber, the bolt won’t rotate. Any suggestion why this is  happening? Thank

Make sure you take the bolt apart and clean it. Also clean the chamber and the recesses for the bolt lugs in the forward receiver. Also, when you reassemble the bolt, be sure to use the tool to set the firing pin at the proper protrusion. If you're not familiar with that, I can find a link for you, or just do a search on "Mosin firing pin protrusion" and you should be able to find a tutorial. Chances are that there's some cosmoline somewhere that's holding things up.

Did you clean the chamber out real good? Could be a little cosmoline left in it.

Well I just disassembled the bolt and clean it.  I also clean the inside of the rifle.  I check the chamber doesn’t seem to be anything wrong.

When the rifle is empty I can slide the bolt forward, rotate it,  and dry fire.  But when I tried to put a live round in, the round get into the chamber but I can’t turn the bolt.  It seem to be excessively hard to turn the bolt every when empty.  Maybe the bolt is damage?

When you put a round in and try to close it, then open it again, does the round eject as it's supposed to? Also, does the case of the cartridge show any scratches on it? Any shavings from the cases found in/around the chamber/bolt?

It's hard to say for sure, but, looking at the picture of the bolt head, it appears that the extractor MAY be seated out too far. Also, it almost appears as if it's bent (which would not surprise me if its' out too far). Can you get some more clear pictures of it?

Extractor does look bent, but that shouldn't matter.

Try slamming the bolt closed. Do not be gentle with a Mosin nagant! They

don't appreciate it. Make sure the firing pin protrusion is correct so you dont have an AD.

Also make sure there is no caked dry cosmoline in the chamber.

No the round doesn’t eject out.  Yes I noticed that the extractor seem to be somewhat bent.  Is this normal? If not how can I fix it? Thank

That extractor is bent as has been pointed out, they are kind of a pain to replace yourself. The last extractor I ordered as a replacement came attatched to a bolt head. I found it easier to just replace the the bolt head with the new bolt head extractor combo. Of course I checked the headspace afterwards.

Try putting a round under the extractor against the bolt face then see if it will close. If it will close and extract by manually placing the round under the bent extractor I would try carefully bending the extractor outward untill it was straight.

+1 to coyotesilencer's suggestions.

However, if you try this, take the bolt head off of the bolt assembly, first, for safety's sake.

If you have a vise, a mallet and a punch, replacing the extractor may not be too difficult. Probably easier/safer than trying to straighten it.

This totally suck.  I will call AIM tomorrow morning to return this.  I ever pay extra $10 for hand select, Satan damn it all.  This ruin my whole weekends.  Hopefully I will get a replacement.

Just curious; what/how is the rest of the gun? Date/arsenal/bore condition?

The rifle is in very good condition. Nice shiny bore, overall good finish on stock, a few imperfections but nothing major.  But again it came with a bent extractor! A nice rifle that can’t shoot is junk to me.

The date 1939 from Izhmash.

I don't think AIM knew the extractor was broke.

They will take care of you.

Something not mentioned yet, what kind of ammo?  I remember having some Albanian that would not chamber a lot of time in different Nagants.

Where in OK are you?

Umm had a similar problem my extractor was bent on my m38, all I did was bend the extractor into a position were it would function reliably, just used a piece of wire to bend it, fired hundreds of rounds with it and haven't had any problems yet.

I send the bolt back to AIM last Monday, they should have got it Wednesday.  So how long should I wait before calling to check?

Given that it's a long holiday weekend, I would at least give them the week to get it out. I know. Anticipation is a killer, isn't it?

I finally got the bolt back from AIM. But now I have another problem, I love AIM!!!

They fixed the extractor and was able fired some rounds off.  Definitely will buy more guns from them.
