Daddy like! I'll probably get a 91/30 first, though. Cheap is my friend! i hear ya. i wasn't really interested in a bolt gun, but i figured for $79 what the hell. i have only shot my 91/30 once, but i really enjoyed it. I see an Enfield and a K31 in my future. |

I just got a stamped match laminate from AIM. 1944 dated
It's a very nice looking rifle but the bore sucks ass, and it's counterbored over an inch into the muzzle. Guess my handpick went to the year or the external cosmetics. It'll probably shoot well enough though, they all do. Pics to follow |
My wife would flip out if I put a cosmoline-covered rifle on the carpet. She'd probably stab me with the bayonet or something.
Mine is supposed to arrive soon. I'll clean her up and take her out. I was hooked some time ago when a couple of kids brought an M38 to the local range. Everyone was just sitting there, popping off a few rounds occasionally while the two kids nonchalantly set up and decided who would shoot first. I was watching behind the line, thinking, "OK, this is going to be good." All the old timers just sitting there with their 30-30 and 270 deer guns, just enjoying a day in the sunshine, not a care in the world, and then.... BOOM! A six-foot fireball erupts off the line, singes the grass, and everyone just stops. Dead quiet. And the whole line is looking down at these two kids like.
I knew I needed one right then and there. I got a few 91/30s, but it's just not the same level of awesome. It's still an absurd recoil for a .30 round and they're good rifles, don't get me wrong, but I need that fireball! |

me likey. that's a nice looking blaster!
i started cleaning my m44 this morning. Plenty of cosmoline on the bolt and in the chamber. The barrel appears to have very strong rifling. I could not see any pitting at all. Stupid question though- what's the trick to deploying the bayonet? i know that I have to pull the metal part down, but i can't get the thing to budge. what's the secret? |

Clean the cosmolene out, pull the collar down, and pull harrd. The pivot pin might be stuck or something. Mine unfolded with no problems. I then promptly stabbed the shit out of the cardboard shipping box, screaming, "KILL KILL KILL!" My wife yells, "What the hell are you doing?!" I said, "Well, I have to make sure the bayonnet works." | To unlock the bayonet when it's folded against the stock, pull the bayonet back towards the butt of the rifle. There is a spring that locks it into place. Once you've pulled back on the bayonet, you can fold it forward and over the barrel. Repeat the process to fold it back into place. |

Try using carb cleaner on the cosmo.
It ate right through the cosmo that was still left in my bolt assembly that I thought I had cleaned. I just sprayed it down and let it sit a bowl for 20 minutes. Pulled it out and took a tooth brush to all the nooks and crannies. The carb cleaner was brown when I was done. PS, follow a trigger job tutorial. I did mine and its a night and day difference. Ill never miss out on whoring out the old girl. Here's my 45 Izzy #'s matching. http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n286/teacupunderfire/13e12a35.jpg |

Just got the two M44s from AIM on Saturday. Both seem to be stamped and matching, and both seem to be in excellent condition. I chose one for the wall and put the other in the Mosin crate that I picked up at a show. I'm ordering 3/8" beveled glass this week to turn the crate into a coffee table.
The trigger on the M44 seems to have a longer and stiffer trigger pull than my favorite 91/30. In the beginning of March, I had zero Mosins. I now have seven. |
