I got a really fair deal I think. 8mm German 98, stock and metal are great, Nazi proofs all over it, for $300 shipped should be here tomorrow |
|
you all just post links to sites but I don't see the complete number matching gun like I got for $150 please show me one for that price, complete and include shipping. The condition of the gun I got is comparable to a Mitchell Souvenir Grade, minus the accessories. Matching numbers, proofs, guaranteed bright bore with strong grooves. |

I think you got a pretty good deal skunk-ape, especially on one in that shape. I think the person above you is thinking about a Yugo m24/47.....or he may just be a few bricks short of a load [:// |

Quoted: Last I checked Sarco has no WWII 98's for $150. The cheapest I've seen is from Samco and those are postwar. $300 sounds like a decent price - please post up some pics when it arrives. Quoted: Not Really that great of Deal since you can pick those up from Sarco for $150.00 I don't think so |

Complete number matching for $300? Hmm... Is it a K98k? Was it on auction? If so, ask yourself this...if it was on auction, if it is legit all matching, with correct proofs, then why did it sell for just $300? It's at least $1000 low for an all matching K98k. If it's a "Mitchell's" type refurb, then it's humped up and worth no more than you paid for it. Sadly, K98's are often "restamped" to make them "more valuableâ„¢'. If you got an actual K98k Mauser, all matching, in original condition (not reblued, not refinished, not restamped) for $300, that's a great deal. We'll need to see pix to determine if it is in fact, legit.... ![]() BTW-don't ever let Mitchell's Mausers be the reference for what a good collectible gun is; their guns are questionable at best and outright fakes and forgeries at worst. They grind off and restamp numbers to insure that their guns match. Heck, years ago they were pimping their Mauser M48's as part of a "secret Nazi stash" found in Yugoslavia and produced during the war...only problem is that the M48 is a post-war gun... |

Quoted: 1. is it a Russian refurb? Number don't match on refurbs. 2. If it is a refurb and it matches then more than likley it is a Mitchels scam where they re stamped them to match. 3. Its not an M48 ? For a standard russian refurb $300 is an average deal these days. the gun is what is referred to as a "Russian capture" I'm sure one of the thousands taken by Russia when Germany surrendered. many of these were arsenal guns from what I understand Yes, Ivan, put a coat of shellac on it at one time, but that was all taken off and the stock is back closer to original I hope BLO is a good choice, because that is what I intend to put on it. the barrel is stamped 1938 and the SN on the barrel and receiver match. The bolt, and stock are different. The bore looks great and the rifle looks in good mechanical order and I can't wait to shoot it. it has one Nazi proof on the left side of the receiver, the eagle/swastika and some three others smaller proofs on the barrel near the receiver. I will try and get good pics like I mentioned I paid $300 shipped, so that is like $270 plus shipping. I feel I got a very fair price for what I got |

|
it is stamped "42" "1939" also on the receiver there is a EAGLE/655 WAFFENAMPT That symbol is on the receiver once and on the barrel three times there is also a "W" and and "X" on the left side of the receiver The Nazi Eagle with spread wings and swastika appear once on the barrel and once on the receiver the stock also has two faint ones between the sling mount and the butt |

Glad to!
The need for the K-98 was so great that the original designer and manufacture, Mauser, could not keep up. Therefore there were orders placed with other German and Austrian gun manfactures to help make up the additiona weapons required. That's not saying that the other manufactures were not good guns, they were, but in my personal opinion, I prefer the original Mauser, Oberndorf plant guns. We did the exact same thing in WWII with the Garands, Carbines and 1911A-1's. There is a lot of info out there on K-98's just Google it! |
|
Code "42" is the original Mauser Oberndorf plant. The codes changed over the years also, so as not to give away who was making what rifles......
I have a good link that will tell you about all those birds with numbers, they are called waffenamts. They are inspectors stamps for pretty much anything the German army made. The "W" under your serial number indicates your rifle was in the "W" series of that ser# run. In other words, they went 1-9999, and then went 1-9999 A, and 1-9999 B and so on.... the nails were probably to hold the sling keeper in the stock, nice touch... |

Quoted: Nice RC Mauser!!! It is hard for me to tell in the pic, is the swastika still intact or did it get stamped? My next purchase is a K98. I have no issue with RC I just want one that still has the intact swastika. To me that says WWII both Eagle/Swastikas are perfect, they did not get stamped over the first pic I posted shows the one on the receiver |

Quoted: Good RC Kar98k. That stock looks awful dry or its a Yugo replacement? Maybe its just the pics? Yeah, Ivan shellacked everything back then ![]() the seller told me that it had been stripped and that the wood was a little dry I have already wiped on 2 layers of BLO and it really worked out nice. So far I need that lock screw on the floor plate, a butt stock sling mount and a cleaning rod I will try Numrich later |

Not Really that great of Deal since you can pick those up from Sarco for $150.00 I always figured that if the buyer thinks it's a great deal then it is a great deal. No matter what it is, someone will come along and beat the price, it's the law. |
