I have the Swiss Products clamp-on scope mount for my K31.  It works great, now I am on the hunt for a good optic.  I have a cheapo on it that I just threw on for testing.  It's a Bushnell 3x-9x.  One problem is that the Bushnell is large enough that it very occasionally interferes with ejection, and allows a spent case to drop back into the action.  The other issue is insufficient eye relief; the scope came back and tagged me a couple of times.  Not enough to be painful, but it definitely had my undivided attention.

So, what I need is something that's fairly compact, one inch tube, and has generous eye relief.  I've looked at the Leupold FX-II 2.5x fixed.  Plenty of eye relief and compact, but I think I'd prefer a 4x fixed power optic.  What does the hive recommend?

ETA: I've also looked at the Sightron S2, fixed 4x.  Not quite as much eye relief as the Leupold (4.5 inches as opposed to 4.9), but larger objective lense, and of course 4x instead of 2.5x.

If you are looking for lot's of eye relief, check out some of the shotgun scopes. Most are 4x. I have an inexpensive Simmons Pro Diamond mounted on my Ruger #1, chambered in .45-70, which keeps me well clear of the heavy recoil of my handloads. I killed a cow elk at a laser ranged  292 yards with it this year. The optical quality is pretty sad compared to a Leupold, but it worked. I had a Burris 2.5x on it at one time, but it was lacking for longer shots. I have a Millett 3x9 on my K-31 with the same mount you are using. Normal amount of eye relief on that scope and no problems for me. I just tip it sideways when I eject empty cases, works pretty good, and it doesn't bang me in the eye. I used that rig several years ago for hunting cow elk, sighted in with a 300 yard zero. Wouldn't you know, I was able to get within 50 yards for that hunt to fill my tag.

I use a 30+ year old Leupold Vari II 3-9 and love it.

A good friend of mine picked up a Nikon Monarch BDC and I can say that it's a really nice scope w/ great eye relief.

Many good options, if you go with a fixed 4 then hopefully others will chime in w/ their opinions.
