| I ran across this thread and wondered what you guys thought( http://www.gunandgame.com/forums/powder-keg/99576-its-alive-monster-mosin.html ). I ordered one of the barrels, and I have a junk m44 barreled receiver that I got in a trade along with a couple of k98 one of which is being re barreled. |

I never honestly thought it would be of any use to me but I grabbed it any way cause he said he was going to trash it. I have already removed the old mosin barrel it was fun.

how bad was it to remove the barrel? while i am not a purist, and i truly think it's ridiculous the way some people act in regards to "bubba", if you paid for it, you do what ever you please, although, i do cringe at some of the stuff i have seen. soaked it overnight in a 50/50 mix of automatic transmission fluid an mineral spirits and it only took about 300 ft/lbs. if something is unmolested I don't see a reason to mess with it but with this m44 it was stripped and beaten on before I got it so I'm just going to try and give it new life. |

I picked one of those barrels up a little while back when I saw that guys "it's alive" thread.. that is a very cool rifle.. so did you come up with something to use as a barrel vise and action wrench or how did you do that? Those barrels are amazing! I made wooden inserts (oak) that fit in my bench vise for the barrel and I also made my own action wrench for the mosin instead of using my wheeler. I made it out of a 3 foot section 1/4'' steel angle iron. lol the action wrench weighs 20 lbs. |
| its been awhile but I made some process on this build, I do a little bit here and there when I get free time. Progress Pics |

I like when people get creative. That gun is pretty neat. Many times I feel the same ol thing just gets a little boring. I give the guy credit for being a little "different". ETA: what barrel did he use and where can a guy get one? MOSIN TARGET BARREL I would never touch a mosin that was 100%, and as far as what mount is he running I thinks it's an ati or rock solid industry mount. |
| yeah I'm just taking it slow making sure I do it all right. making the forend is going to be the hardest part for me because I know nothing about wood working. the bolt and handle are turning out really good, as soon as I solve some headspace issues it will all get gunkoated. I'm not sure which scope mount to go with, the one he's using or THIS ONE . lol the barrel itself without the receiver weighs as much as my bull barrel AR carbine. |
