I actually did some googling, but didn't find what I was looking for. I took some pictures, but I won't be able to post them until 7/13.
I took my nephew out to the local range so we could sight in his family hand-me-down Mauser. He thinks it's from 1909, and it's chambered for 8mm Mauser. It's a very pretty rifle, and has a German scope with military reticle, maybe a 2x....not much magnification. The figured walnut stock is very nice and the action was wonderful. After a few shots on paper up close, I was able to hit a metal plate at 300yds. The rifle has the following on the receiver: WAFFENFRABRIK MAUSER-OBERNDORF A/N. The serial numbers on the barrel: 754xx, and receiver: 754xx 8,0 N. I'm assuming the "8,0" is the caliber (8mm) but don't know what the "N" is for. I didn't find any kind of "N" Model, and searches turned up nothing. It has double triggers (don't know what that's called...one pulls the slack out of the trigger). The iron sights look OK, and the rear sight has two blades, one marked for 100 meters and the other marked for 200 meters. I must say, the metalwork on this rifle is gorgeous, especially the scope mounts. The craftsmanship is evident. It's got quite a kick, but it's accurate. Sorry I don't have pictures, but it looks similar to the Africa Model and the Model B, but I don't know. I was unable to find a way to track the serial number either. TIA |
