Here are pics of my first Mosin 1925 Hex Izzy as far as I can tell, I was not going to refinish the stock because I thought it looked fairly good, I am in the process of getting all the cosmoline out.  Just out of curiosity do any of you guys know what the square with the diagonal line through it represents?  I think it means a refurb at least according to 762x54r.net

You are correct. That marking indicates that it has been refurbished/refinished. Nice ex-Dragoon you have there.

The box with a slash is indicitive of an Ukranian refurb.
7.62x54.net has a mindnumbing amount of info on Mosin Nagants. I assure this won't be your last one!

Yup, they breed like wabbits. Nice brass on the handguard.

I have to agree with this.  I got my first mosin in march.  Two weeks ago I ran across a mosin 38 carbine and picked it up.  Now I'm thinking of the 44 or another 91/30 with a round receiver instead of the hex.

The brass caps are almost exclusive to pre war ex-dragoons. I bet the handgaurd is original. I have 2 and a buddy has 1. All original stocks w/ brass caps. All 3 Dragoon converts. Broken original stock?.

Brass end caps were used all the way up until the start of WW2, until brass was needed elsewhere. But, they weren't exclusive to ex-Dragoons. Also, the stocks on these refurbed rifles are most likely not original to that particular rifle. The chances of them keeping the same stock through refurb is pretty slim.
