I have a No4 Mk1 rifle in pretty decent shape, a buddy might buy from me, I haven't priced these lately to know what they go for...  It's a 1943 ROF(F)  has the flip up peep sight on it, nothing spectacular, just wondered what a fair price to ask would be....

In good shape, with a matching bolt, $250 or so. Less if the bolt doesn't match or the rifle has been to India.

Every part matches, don't think it went to India....  Stock was refinished by the previous owner to a nice semi gloss finish, but not original of course.  I'll have to look in my bound book, and see how much i paid for it....

How do you know if it's been to India?

Well I don't, but if it was, someone did a hell of a job looking after it  Finish is blued, no black paint or anything like that...

if it doesn't have black paint it probably went to/came from Turkey.  IIRC the Brits would have done black paint over Parkerzing.  all the ones I have seen in recent years that didn't have black paint on them had the tell tale Turkish hand stitched leather sling on them....or did before they were removed.  lately i have seen most "shooters" in the $250 range......before the "scare" last year they were in the $150-$200 range.

Screws the Indians put in the stock to reinforce/strengthen it. Mine has one just ahead of the magazine. Kind of like where a recoil lug would go if there was one on an Enfield.

No, nothing of the sort on this rifle.

What I do know, it was made in 1943 at the Fazakery sp? arms factory in england, where it went after that who knows....
