Quoted:
Looks like you did good, M 44's are really loud and with the right ammo will get a pretty impressive fireball out the end of the muzzle when firing. Thats what I've heard. I'm looking forward to it
Is there a good butt pad I can get for it. That metal and wood doesnt look like the softest hitting thing in the world. Or should I just man up |
Get a pic of the end of the barrel, and we can see if it's counter-bored. Doesn't matter either way, most are. They are very loud, ask my neighbors from New Years eve Actually you did very well, these have been fetching upwards of $140-150 now, because they are getting harder to find.

I was hoping I did well. I'll have to look at the barrel. I did notice the rifling. Looks like it has never been shot. Maybe this is due to counter boring? |

But yeah, $50 is a score. |
| Take a better picture of the rear of that bolt. All the ones I have, the end of the firing pin is flush with the rear of the cocking peice. If you can see threads there in the cocking peice, the pin may not be screwed in far enough. You'll have some primer peircing going on. Good find for $50 smakers otherwise. |

I don't believe thats a Russian.
Looks like a Romanian M44 Mosin to me. The date appears to be 1954 and the blueing on the receiver looks Romanian too. eta, the Romanian (tree in a triangle) symbol looks very similar to the Izhevsk marking (arrow in a triangle). Look at the wreath at the top and it should RPR in the wreath (meaning Romanian Peoples Republic) |

Alright, so I'm home and had a better chance to look at it. Receiver part says 1954, BH39X,
BH39X, M1944 CAI. GEOGRIA.VT.ROMANIA Only numbers I can see that dont match up are on the Bolt. Rifling looks good but I dont know how to tell if its been counter bored. But I'm putting it away know., I've been to thebar and I dont touch firearms after I been drinking, even if I dont have any ammo for it in the house. The sctock is in pretty rough shape, I was planning on sanding it and refinishing it. But fro m what I have heard people say guess I shouldnt. Even though I dont plan on reselling it better safe than sorry. |

| After further looking at the rear of the bolt I see MANY threads. Meaning my firing pis is too far forward? I will move it back until its flush with the back of the bolt, is that correct? That sounds like it could be a painful mishap. Thanks Guys. I know the person I bought if from never fired it. |

Always, always, always clean up after shooting. |

Good score! M44's tend to shoot left with the bayo folded. Right down the middle with it extended.
Here's a good place to spend a few hundred hours.More info than a human should know about Mosins |

| Great score for $50. It is a somewhat rare piece being from Romania. On 7.62 x 54r.net it gets an 8 out of 10 on the rarity scale. It will make a great brush gun. As stated above, VERY LOUD and great fireball. If you intend to shoot it, take good care to clean it properly after shooting. All milsurp ammo for these is corrosive so clean accordingly. Some people may pay up to $250 for one of these. Run of the mill Russian M44's about half that price. |

Bolt mismatched so it gets a "1". Still a rare bird in these days of a bazillion Soviet imports. |

another thing to remember-
after you shoot corrosive ammo- clean the BAYONET also. you would be surprised how much the bayonet changes the POI and accuracy, but if you dont clean the bayonet with solvents it will corrode / rust. clean the chamber and the bolt face well. hoppes #9 is really all you need. forgetting to clean it will wreck it. |
