ok so i inherited a Remington model 720 and information is for lack of better words limited. here is what i have been able to find... they were produced in limited numbers in the early 1940s and when we went to war with japan the navy took all remaining stock but before they could be issued were mothballed. this one has no navy markings but has never been fired and is in excellent condition minus a few personality marks on the stock. i have included some pictures... what i need help with is an estimated value and if you can give me more information... thanks in advance!
also i realize i may have this in the wrong section and that the images are big so i apologize for that http://i961.photobucket.com/albums/ae99/rivparamagic/r7202.jpg http://i961.photobucket.com/albums/ae99/rivparamagic/r7201.jpg http://i961.photobucket.com/albums/ae99/rivparamagic/r7203.jpg http://i961.photobucket.com/albums/ae99/rivparamagic/r7204.jpg http://i961.photobucket.com/albums/ae99/rivparamagic/r7205.jpg |

The 720s are the civilian version of the M1917. Remington had the tooling to make the Enfield pattern rifles and a market just happened to be opening up. That model of rifle is the Great-grandaddy of all modern Remington turn bolt rifles. And highly prized.
Characteristics: toggle safety, extra long, super strong, very smooth action, tubular receiver, Mauser type extractor & ejector, bolt knob positioned suitable for scopes, cock on close. If it is as you say, you should be looking at a value inexcess of a couple of thousand. MLG |

Remington 720
Notes: This was a rifle plagued more by patent troubles than anything else, and as a result, only 2430 were built during less than a year of production. It was a good design, with a fluted stock, a well-made pistol grip stock, and a striker and bolt mechanism designed to reduce cocking time. A version with a 22-inch barrel, the Model 720A, was also built, though even less were made. Remington 720 .30-06 Springfield 3.63 kg 5 Internal $1728 Remington 720A .30-06 Springfield 3.6 kg 5 Internal $1708 If you had one stamped on the floor plate as an award rifle, that would put the price over $4500.00 The scope on yours is the interesting part. What is it? |
