Got my first C&R rifle last week. 1939 code 27 98k.

With my airsoft 98k.

Not sure what country used it last. It didn't have a shellac stock, but, it did have a rack number painted on the stock, which I was able to remove with DA, and a sling swivel inlet into it.

So what is the best way to fill the stock?

Now to stock up on 8mm ammo.

Personally, I would leave it just the way it is. This is the first lesson in collecting C&Rs. The sling swivel cannot be changed back to original now, so it's part of it's history. To alter it any further would only decrease it's value even more (too bad you removed the number on the stock!). I forget which country these alterations were made in. Perhaps someone more up on K98s can chime in before I can look it up. Any chance of some close up pics? Do all the numbers match on the action and metal parts (the stock and rear band, at least from what I can see, are not correct for this era rifle)? It's a nice, early Erfurt built K98 and a good starter rifle for a K98 collection, for sure.

I second leaving it alone, it is too bad you used a DA on your rifle stock....
