What's the best distance to sight in a k98 mauser?
Will 25 or a 50 yard sight in cover the spectrum of practical shooting like it will with an AR? Or should I put it at 200 yards and just compensate from there? Sorry I suck, haha. |

my advice, get it on paper at 25 yards, the make sure its in the bullseye area at 50 yards, then sight it in for 100 yards. then when you get to know the rifle, go to the 200 yard range.
i give this advice because you have a scope on it. but i personally sight in my rifles with scopes at 100 yards, and learn where they hit at 200 yards so i know how to compensate for the longer shots. |

A scope is a different animal. 200 yard zero is just that. Have you bore sighted it? Way to many variables to use a short distance to zero. Now you can help yourself. If you are bore sighted at 100 yards, You can use a ballistics calculator to find zero at 200 and take care of it. Norma has a great one on line. So if at 100 yard zero, the bullet drops 1.5" at 200 for a 150gr , you need to raise 6 clicks on a 1/4" scope. Simple! Each weight bullet has a different POI, that is key. I use 175gr Sierra hunters, they give the best of both worlds. I do load 150 and 200 also, but those 175's are great. Here is the link, go to ballistic US.
