Some might call the 99 in 300 savage a relic but it's still a good lever action hunting gun. I picked up a parts gun this weekend and am looking for a chemical dip that I can put the barrel in. almost like a soak process to get some of the carbon and grit out. I would rather loosen everything up before using a barrel brush, it's got a fair amount of stuff in there.

They are great rifles, I think one of the best lever guns made.
I have one in 308, its still right on the money.

I have two in my safe, one is a Model "B" with octagon barrel made in 1909 and the other is a takedown Model "A" with round barrel made in 1913. Both have 26" barrela, perch belly stocks and are in .303 Savage. I still take them out for deer hunting on nice days as both have only open sights and they're hard to pickup in overcast weather in the deer woods. > Gary

Not so good looking pics but a very beautiful 1952 model 99...yes it's 300 savage.
Some years back a hunting partner let his bro in law use the rifle...he forgot it in the woods!    It pissed off the dude so bad he sold me the rifle.   It will never go away as it has become my favorite deer killin choice.

As for the crud in the bore of your 99 mabe try corking the muzzle and soaking it with Hoppes #9
