I got this years ago from my step dad.  I am "told" he got it from his dad who got it during the war.  The numbers on the bolt, barrel and bottom plate do match,  are there any other places to look.  It has 1944 stamped on the top with other german symbols here and there. My grandfather "sporterized" it for hunting.  I want to get it to its origonal state.  Im thinking I need the following

new stock( I think this one was cut down)
butt plate
bayonett lug
bayonett
stuff that goes on side (I dont know what that is)

any help  on sources for this stuff would be great.  I would not sell this rifle but Is it worth anything?  just curious if I should even mess with it.  thanks
also any other input whould be helpfull

Well, at least the barrel isn't cut.

You could always find one with trashed metal and take it as a parts gun.

You can find replacement k98 stocks on eBay.

it could have been worse.

youll need a complete stock set, barrel bands, top handguard.

you can find them on Epay, or gunbroker.

personally i wouldnt buy from them.

try to find a late war stock, which will have a cupped buttplate, and a front sight hood.

what code does it have, ? DUV, DOT,AC, ??? ( the code its on the top of the reciever which tells you which factory it was built at.  figuring that out will help you find the proper stock.

Is it still in 8mm Mauser caliber? Is there any markings on the barrel shank or reciever which may indicate if it was re-chambered? Unlikely because the iron sights are intact, but, verify caliber before firing it.

It is still in 8mm.  I have fired it it in the past.  I did have it checked by a gun smith years ago..
