| Where can I pick up a M38? |
| Those at Centerfire are counterbore. I will pass on it. After thinking about it I may ended up with a M44 from AIM and just remove the folding bayonet. I se also that a lot of the M38 have M44 stocks. Well I may just get a 91/30 and see if I can do a project 91/59. Just got to find info on the 91/59. |
Don't let a counterbore stop you. My M38 has one and it shoots pretty good. Almost every M38 I have seen is counterbored. 91/59's would be a pretty good deal if the metal is in good shape. I have yet to hear anybody complain of one being a poor shooter. Plus the triggers are much better than the average Mosin Nagant. |
Most M38s and M44s are counterbored. It's an arsenal repair, and 99% of the time, has no effect on accuracy. Actually, if the crown was damaged, then the counterbore has a positive effect on accuracy. A lot of 91/30s are counterbored too, (mine is not). I thought about removing the bayonet on the M44 as well, and may go that route. I'm looking into all of this later on tonight, after work. |

On the 91/59's is it just the barrel section cut down and the rear of the stock? Or the rear of the stock stays the same? I am leaning towards my own version of a 91/59. It won't be the hex I ordered but wil be a round reciever. I will decide after my 91/30 comes in. (thinking about a fireball out of a 18" barrel |
