I just recieved my first C&R purchased rifle, a Mosin 91/30. From what I have read about them they didn't start making them until 1930, but the one I received is clearly marked 1929. Maybe it is that they didn't start issuing them until 1930? I will try and get pictures later.

It could be an 1891. Is the receiver round or hex?

Probably an ex-dragoon rifle.  These were longer, but converted to 91/30 specs.

The soviets commonly used parts and receivers on hand to complete rifles, even through design changes.

It has a hex receiver. I purchased it as a "Russian Hex Receiver Model 91/30". The numbers on the bolt, receiver, and stock match. Here is a few snap shot, don't have the time to get some good pictures. This is the way I received it, haven't done any cleaning yet.

SO LUCKY (V_V)

I want a hex receiver mosin so bad! The oldest one I have is a 1938 Izhevsk (although it is very sexy for a rounded receiver).
