Can anyone tell me anything about these carbines?  For some reason they're just sexy to me.  Are there any weaknesses etc?  What are some things to look for or avoid?  Any other fans of them?

I've owned two of them. Nice rifles. With the short barrel, they tend to bark a bit, but they're good shooters. The peep sight is not quite as useful as you'd imagine since the holes are calibrated for like 300 yards and beyond. There's a open sight notch that wheels into position for 100 yard shooting (the rear sight has a little wheel with different holes in it. you turn it to select the appropriate sight for the distance you're shooting).

Very nice, straight shooting carbines. I shot a 3" 100yd group with Port surplus through mine which is a really good group for me. I need to get myself a more beat up FR8 to use as a truck gun. Mine is too purty to toss behind the seat. If you can find one for under $300 you should nab it. Prices are heading high on them.

I have a few questions about mine, hopefully you guys can help me. This is my 2nd FR-8, and it isn't like my other one. Here are some pics. I have shot close to 60 rounds through it, and it runs great!

This is what holds the stock to the front. No screw in the front of stock.

the bolt is bent. but the serial doesn't looked warped....

it's stamped CAL7.62, but has no crest

on the other side it's stamped FR-7

Any help would be appreciated. THANKS!

What you have is actually a FR7 that was built on a 1916 Mauser action. The FR8s were built on 1943 Mauser actions. The FR7 is easy to recognize since it uses a curved bolt unlike the straight bolt FR8. Nice find.

It's the older FR-7, and I'd be careful about what ammo you feed it.  It's not as strong of an action as the FR-8 and the barrels were not as strong.  YMMV

I have to check mine, out to see if it is stamped fr7 or fr8 as mine a bent bolt as well. Will the fr7 shoot surplus .308?

Most of what I have read on the FR7 says that if you stick to surplus you should be okay. It has 2 locking lugs instead of the 3 that the FR8 action uses.

I have posted this everytime this topic comes up but that flash suppressor is threaded the same as an HK. So, on mine, I screwed on an AAC Flash Suppressor so I can use my AAC 762SD suppressor.

I don't know. I have never fired it. I am not worried about it however. If it does, you just dial up the next sight aperature. I doubt that it will do much, the barrel on that rifle is pretty short (not as much leverage).
Any time you put something on your barrel, it changes the harmonics of the barrel. If you rest the rifle on the barrel when you shoot it, it will change the poiint of impact to some degree. So, I don't think there is any getting away from some degree of change in point of impact with the suppressor on.

Nothing like an Fr8 with a can...very cool!

After much searching for the coveted Fr8, I bought one and shot it and honestly, I didnt like it at all.  Action was crunchy its loud and kicks like a mule.  I traded it off on a can of ammo and some cash.  Am I the only one in the world that doesnt like these?  (not baggin on anyone that does of course) Maybe im weird or something.

It's funny you should talk about these kicking hard. I was expecting mine to kick like my other .30 battle rifles, especially since it is a carbine. To me the kick on a FR8 is less than most of my others. My K31s, Enfield No5Mk1 and M44s all kick much worse to me.
