Yes, I'm doing the dirty deed - my Mosin is getting refinished!  It was pretty badly beat up so I figured to give refinishing another shot.

I have removed the cosmoline and have lightly sanded the stock.  My question is: What do you guys and gals recommend I refinish the stock with?

Recommendations and pics, if possible, would be greatly appreciated!

Make sure you get the cosmo if any out before sealing the wood or it will feel waxy to the touch when finished.

I just stripped the cosomoline off the stock so it is dark brownish red in color.  I do not plan on bleeching the wood.

Here are pic's of my laminated 91-30. I used acetone to remove the old red varnish and no sanding. Then applied 3 coats of Behr 600.

I debated about a year if I should refinish or not, now I'm glad I did.

There old rifles are not Holy Relics.  There is no reason not to refinish them and make them look better.
