Nice Mauser! Though it looks like it's a Yugoslavian K98.

how much did you pay for it??

if the 44 stands for 1944, then you may have the incorrect stock. your stock has a FLAT buttplate, it should have a cupped buttplate. though, i might be wrong. if i am right, that means your stock came from another rifle made an earlier year.

heres a link that might teach you more.

ETA tell me what markings are on the stock, if its got any german markings it should have a WaA and a number after it. itll be small and hard to read. i have a cupped buttplate stock im considering trading for a flat one to make it more "correct"

The 44 stands for Factory 44.  The factory in Yugoland where it was assembled.

It is a post war Yugo assembled K98 from parts.  With a possibility of local made parts used also.

Good shooters usually.
