I don't know that I can describe the process. That tiny pin serves only to keep things together in case the leaf spring breaks. Once the pin is removed, the end where the pin was needs to be pushed down hard to drop it out of a groove that holds it in place. The Surplus rifle sight called that part of the leaf the "trunions" and it says to push down with a screwdriver until the trunions are free. What they need to be free of is a groove in the rear sight base that holds the leaf in place. Its not the pin that does that. Most all 98 Mausers (not all) use this type of rear sight leaf design. Don't beat on it. You have to overcome the leaf spring tension to get the leaf out. Dutch |

alot of '98 mauser rear sights don't have the pin you speak of. the pin you have to pound out is approx 1/16" in diameter....significantly small than the cross hole drilled at the front pivot point of the sight (it doesn't contact the sight base at all..... just the sight leaf). if you don't have the small pin as seen from the side you just have to push down and pull it out to the rear.....no pounding needed. i find the most often a small screw driver helps in prying it out as you push down against the spring pressure. advntrjnky |
