The topic about the Mosin revolvers got me thinking about something I saw at the last show.

There were a couple of Enfield revolvers, chambered in, I believe, .38/200. The guy at the show told me they were "38 caliber" I don't know if he was ignorant or trying to mislead me.

Anyway, I did some research and found that they can shoot .38 S&W. I assume this does not mean it can shoot .38 Special, right? Anything I should know about .38 S&W? Can original .38/200 ammo be found?  Is it expensive?

Finally, it seems that a pistol with the history behind these would be worth the $250 asking price. Would that be a correct assumption?

Hello tep . . .

I don't have an Enfiled revolver, but I do have a Webley-Scott revolver.  Pretty much the same.

As for caliber, the Brits called it the 38/200:  38 caliber weapon that uses a 200 grain bullet.  Later changed to a 178 grain FMJ bullet.

The British  38/200 uses the same case as the American 38 S&W -- NOT 38 Special.  38 S&W case is shorter.

I hand-load a 174 grain SWC in my 38 S&W cases (NOT 38 Special ! ! ) and have a blast with my W-S revolver.  But you can use store-bought 38 S&W ammo in the Enfield.

Most Enfield are double-action only, W-S were single-double action.

Most I have seen are in the $150-$200 range. . .

Regular factory 38 S & W ammo is the ticket, not 38 Special.  Not as common as it once was it can still be found with a bit of looking.  US factory ammo will shoot high, the bullet weight is only 146 grains vs 200/178 for the Brits.

Price on Enfields has shot up in recent years.  Much as I hate to say it.  $250 is not a bad price in today's market.  Not saying I would pay that much, but that's not out of line.

Cool, that's what I thought (.38 S&W vs. .38 Special)

I saw some .38 S&W at the show for about twice .38 Special goes for. I suppose that's niot bad, considering it isn't near as prevalent.

I ended up getting a Finn MN M39 instead, but I was just wondering if I should have looked at getting the Enfield too. I might have to scope out the next show for one.

As it is, I'm starting to kick myself for not getting the Remington M91 I saw. Good price and it only needed a front barrel band.

Thanks, guys.
