I might get one of these mainly for collection to represent SKS and the unique features these rifles have. However, what are these like to shoot: Are they reliable? Accurate? Are they "real shooters" or prone to trouble or what? I have read a few posts about problems, but that may not be representative. Anything to watch out for? Thank you. |

The Yugo 59/66 is a great weapon - accurate and reliable, fun to shoot. Spend the money to get an excellent grade or better. Many of the shooter grades have corroded gas systems that can lead to gas leaks that affect reliable function. This can be fixed - I have several that I have repaired to full function - but unless you don't mind analyzing and screwing around with the gas tube/valve, I would suggest avoiding any problems by getting a better quality one from the start. |
| As long as the gas system, mostly the gas valve is in good shape they function as well as any other sks varient out there. There are fixes for the gas system, ranging from making a gasket from a paperclip to buying a new, stainless steel valve. You do have a better chance of getting good components if you buy the best grade you can find. |
Non-chrome-lined bore, corrosive ammo, lack of cleaning all have contributed to the corroded gas valves. This problem is the worst in the Yugo 59/66s because of the grenade-launcher gas valve. The parts are solid and if you buy an excellent grade and keep it clean, the rifle will outlast you. |
