I was going through my Dad's collection and came across a M91/30. None of us can hit the stand at 50yds, much less the target. Were M91/30's zeroed with bayonets or not? That's the only thing I can come up with. Maybe the barrels bent? Any ideas.. Thanks |

Some were zero'd with bayo on, some not. Try bringing the target in closer to see where your POI is at for center bull hold on the target. try 7.62x54r forums, the link is around these pages somewhere, that forum is devoted to Mosin Nagant Rifles. I have to use a super low, sub six hold to even get in the bull at 50 yards with one of my mosin nagants. On others the aiming is dead nuts on with a bayo extended (M44) others it is another story.... good luck. |

Check the screws that hold the receiver to the stock. These have a very bad habit of coming loose. Also, if you do the bullet test on the end of the barrel, how much of the bullet is sticking out? You shouldn't need a bayonet on a 91/30. Links to the two best sources of info on these rifles on the web: www.mosinnagant.net/ 7.62x54r.net/ |

I'm not sure what the bullet test on the end of the barrel is. If its where you just put the bullet nose down. Then it goes all the way down past the neck of the cartridge. I'm new to this but think the barrel is worn out. I also checked the screws & there tight. Thanks for the help. |
Not necessarily worn out. Many Mosin Nagants were re-arsenaled and during this process were counter bored, thus the end of the barrel is not where the crown is, it is an inch or so down in the barrel...If it is not counterbored, well, then your barrel may be shot out... |

sight tool = hammer and brass punch and a small block of wood to "back up" the sight when "drifting" the frt sight. I have read here and on other forums that the MN's were sighted with bayo's fixed. My m-44 shot 6 inches left and a bit high with bayo folded at 100 yds. YMMV ETA-- if the rifle shoots left of the point of aim then move the front sight to the left. opposite if it shoots right. |

1. tighten action screws 2. make sure crown (inside bore, now) is not damaged -- might need a "freshening up" 3. try a different ammo flavor -- some rifles just don't like some ammo 4. try it at 25 yards to see where it's hitting. Most 91/30s shoot pretty high above POA -- sometimes a foot or more at 100 yards. Could be what you're experiencing. A bayonet shouldn't have more than a few inches effect on POI. |
