Well i finally picked up a K31 I was checking on some mags i ordered at a local gun store and there it was. A vary atractive looking blonde in in the back (the good ones are usually the shy ones you know) So now today after work i get to go ammo hunting, im hoping to go shooting this weekend. Happy day happy day

You're in my general area:

For 7.5x55 the last time I was in Bens in Renton, about a month ago,  they had GP11 @ $40 for 60rds

James at the WAC show has been selling Privi Partizan @ $12 for 20rd

IIRC Miwall/Outdoor Marksman at the shows sells Wolf for $12.95 for 20rds

Non WAC members can buy ammuntiion at the WAC shows.  It's just firearm transactions they are restricted from doing.

Alright, while we're showing off...

Here's my blonde... with some accessories to gussy her up a bit (yes, I have a mag, but left it out when I took the pic...)

ill try to get a few pics of her. Problem with that is i live in the dorms on an AF base so i cannot keep my firearms with me. Its either check them at the armory or leave em with a friend. I prefer the latter becouse i wouldnt trust the armory with a BB gun...

I don't have my C&R yet either. Just have them ship it to Jason at Survival Arms in Bellevue. His FFL is already on file at AIM.

Well i picked up a small amount of Surplus GP11 for it(480 rounds to the tune of $.50 a round). Man this stuff is expensive but hey, i needed some legit Swiss military ammo for it just for kicks...

They are amazing, they are supposed to be capable of 1.5" groups at 100yards. They were carried ALOT so they look rough but almost always have new looking bores. I know Wolf and Norma make ammo for em, the surpluss stuff has dried up around me though. You can find em online for $120 i have heard i payed $200 for mine...

Currently, these rifles are regarded by many as the best value in C&R.

1) They are definitely worthwhile shooters with probably a better trigger than most C&R rifles. Two-stage, ~3lbs, crisp, glass-rod, with virtually no creep.

2) Although MANY of them have heavily worn stocks, nearly all of them have excellent bores since the Swiss used high quality (near match quality), non-corrosive ammo.

3) Male Swiss citizens were issued one rifle to maintain as their own for the duration of their 20+ years of compulsory service. In 1958, Swiss changed their service rifle, but I THINK some units still kept the K31 for some time. Many rifles will still have small plastic tags with the soldiers information under the buttplate; some recent collectors have successfully contacted the rifle's previous owner. One guy actually had a visit from the adult granddaughter of the now deceased soldier who wanted to see her grandfather's rifle.

4) The engineering and manufacturing quality is unsurpassed in terms of military bolt actions from the same era.

5) Bayonets cost nearly as much as the rifle. Bayonets were serialized to each rifle.

6) 7.5 x 55mm SWISS: Swiss surplus ammo (GP11) has dried up for the time being, but new shipments are expected. GP11 was manufactured into the 80's. The recent going rate for GP11 was as low as 33 cents per round but realistically 50 cents per round. Serbian Prvi Partizan will run about $14/20 rounds. Wolf also markets this round in their "Gold" line, but it is essentially repackage Prvi. Quality is reported to be very good. Reloading dies are available from all major manufacturers and apparently, 284 Winchester brass can be resized. And, 30 caliber bullets for .308 Win and 30-06 work fine.

7) Current prices from online vendors range from $114.50 for an off-the-rack rifle to $225 and up for individually graded and pictured rifles. Apparently a couple years ago, these rifles sold for as low as $69. But, at the time there was little interest in these things. Now, people have caught on.

Yeah, they're okay I guess.

Most will shoot MOA with GP11. I am not that good of a shot, but can achieve 1.5" on a good day and iron sights. Touching 5-shot groups would not surprise me with optics.

That they do! I take out the K31 that you sold me a few months back (Thanks again for the great service) at least once a month, it has competition from other K31's now, and it sure is a beauty to boot!
I wonder which one is mine in that pic from a while back

And here is an endorsement of the St.Marie's clamp on mount, It really is awesome for glassing the rifle without permanent modifications/bubba-ification.
With a run of the mill 3-9 bushnell, it really makes the groups tighten up for me at 100-200 yards. Inside of 100 yards, the irons work better than the scope, maybe due to the offset nature of the mount and how I have it zero'd

Called a St.Maries (sp?) clamp on mount:
Brownells
AIM had them around christmas time, don't know if they still have them in stock...

These use 30 mil rings, at least mine does, so normal 1" rings are to big to fit on the rail of the mount. Millet rings for .22 scopes work well for this mount and are very rugged compared to run of the mill .22 rifle rings which are pretty cheapo.

Good to hear!  I am down to seven K31s now, only one beech, due to some financial difficulties.  But those seven stay.

The mount AIM was selling was a knockoff of the ST. Marie (which is itself a knockoff).  It may work fine, but Pierre at St.M uses the best materials and engineers his products specifically for the K31 community.  You can get his mount a Brownells or Graffs.
