I've been working with a couple of K31's with handloads
lately.  Shot some loads with DP86 powder today.  I had
a number of MOA or smaller groups.  Here are a couple
of 5 shot groups from 100 yards with a couple of different
bullets.  12x scope with AIM side mount.  These rifles
will flat shoot.

Doc,  NICE groups!  Especially those 168gr!  I'm not familiar with what DP86 powder is, but I have used Nosler HPBT (155gr) with good effect in my M1.  Plus Midway sells 250 packs of them.

I'll be getting dies, and reloading soon.  I only hope I can come close to the accuracy you're seeing there!

Thanks man !

These two K31's have the barrel contact relieved from the handguard and
have had the bedding treatment I described over on the SwissRifles forum.
(I think just floating the barrel makes the most difference.)

The DP86 powder is a bulk lot of AA3100 that www.powdervalleyinc.com
has at present.  This is an excellent powder for a number of applications.
I have used 3100 a lot in 6.5x55, 270 Winchester, 243 Win, and 25-06.
Always accurate and good velocity.  Hard to beat at $62 for 8 lb jug.
They also carry the Nosler Custom Competition bullets at a good price.
$35 I believe.  On the dies, be sure and get the Redding.  These are
cut for the K31 chamber.  I've tried the 155's and they shoot well,
but overall the 168's are better for the K31.    With the groups you
were shooting with GP11 I see no reason why you won't be able to
improve on that to your satisfaction.

:)

I've had very good results with IMR4064 and Hornady 150gr and 165gr SST bullets. BTW Doctor who is Thun brass? I'm starting to get low on Graf's 7.5 and would like  to find some more besides the high priced Norma.

Buy some Wolf Gold ammo.  It uses Prvi boxer primed brass, and from reports, it reloads very well.

IMR powders are pretty common where I'm at...  There's a Sportsman's Warehouse about a mile from where I live that has tons of good stuff.  As soon as I get dies and such, I'll be going to SW to get some powder!

MMRRA -

Thun brass is Swiss 7.5x55 brass.  It was made at the Thun arsenal in Switzerland.
Some has been imported over the years by various people.  Mostly shooter groups
going in as a group buy.  I have heard recently that this is no longer practical for
various reasons.   I have found 2 lots of it for a total of 350 cases in the past few
months, Ebay.   Cost was 40 cents a case.  Very good brass.

Before that I used reformed 284 Winchester brass.  To reform the case all you do
is run the 284 brass into your full size 7.5x55 sizer die.  The cases are very similar.  Many
shooters do this and it works great.   In some ways I like the 284 brass better.
It's for sure heavier guage, weighing about 20 grains on average heavier than the
Swiss brass.    I bought the Swiss brass for "collector" reasons more than any practical
issues.   Winchester makes very good brass.

good shooting,  Chris

I'll probably pick up some Winchester 284 brass, since I've seen it at the Sportsman's Warehouse down the street from me.  I think it's about $20 for 50 cases... last time I ducked in there, they were out of stock though.

I have to work a little OT soon so I can buy some dies, then I'll worry about my brass stock a little more ;)
