Anyone seen these for sale lately?  I have been wanting one for quite awhile now, but I just can't seem to find one.  I'd prefer one in 30-06 or 308 but I'm not hard set on that.

How do they shoot?  If anyone has one please tell me all you can about it.

I've also been looking for one.  They show up occaisonally on the EE or on the auciton sites.

Medicmandan, have you have handled one or had the chance to shoot one?

Not yet.  Just read about and admired them.

I have an Argentine contract '49 in 7.62x51.  It's shoots about as well as the typical FAL (3 MOA).  It's a heavy, chunky beast, but truely is the last "elegant" MBR.  If you are interested in the FN-49, do yourself a favor and get the book by Wayne Johnson at www.fn49.com.

I think I paid $650 or $695 when SOG had them a couple years ago.  Sorry about the size, I don't know how to resize on this board.

Thanks for the info!

Is that a modified magazine you have?  I thought they all had 10 rounders.

The Argentine's had 20 round mags, whereas the rest had fixed 10 rounders.

My Egyptian 8mm is one of my favorite guns to shoot. 8mm packs a hell of a punch, and the gun really tames the recoil. I'm going to have to replace the extractor, as it is kind of worn, but everything else runs just fine. It's really easy to field strip, as well.

w00t !

Just bought one today ! I got the 8mm Mauser Egyptian (as a little brother to my Hakim.)

No range report, he didn't have a magazine so I had to order a reproduction mag from Numrich.

The stock has a little crack, fixable. Bubba took a wire brush to it. I'll need to sort that out. Very happy man here for $250 OTD !

Wow that is a great deal on a 49.

I sure would like to get my hands on one.  Let me know what the 8mm is like when you finally get a chance to shoot it.

I'll let you know, it'll be 5-7 days before my mag gets here.

Like this one? Egyptian 8mm. Not import marked. Looks even better in person.

Nice !

Yes, just like that one. Except my wood/stock isn't as nice.  I'll get a picture up later when I get home from work.

I just picked up a re-arsenaled Egyptian 8mm at a local show this weekend, mint wood, exc finish, and pretty good bore (keeps improving with each cleaning) for $475. It was a pvt deal from a guy that walked in the door not 2 minutes before. Glad I got to him before the "dealers" offered him $200 and told him how lucky he was to get that...

Great gun. Essentially the European M-1 Garand.
