| Is there anyway to check CMP store inventory without showing up? Im looking to drive to the South store (250mi) but I'd like to have any idea what's available before I make the trip (with my7 year old and some of his cub scout buddies) |
I beg to differ. A buddy of mine just went to the store in Ohio and he said the guns on the racks all looked rough. (Greeks...) But after deciding to buy one, the CMP folks cleaned his rifle up and it looked MUCH better. He ended up with a nice Springfield with an excellent bore that was in very good shape overall. He is tickled pink. |
take a left at the gaurd shack, road crosses the rail road spur and goes at an angle away from the shack can't miss the big tan building, guessing 1/4 mile to 1/2 mile from 2?? according to a post over on CSP the south store was pretty well stocked however when i was there during CMP week, they had no 541's, 1-M12 and the rest was luck of the draw,(10 1917's one day, 25+ the next) lots of greek 03's and garands, + the less wood M1's and 03 barreled receivers |

I just went to Camp Perry this past Saturday. The rifles looked rough. I ended up buying 2 Garand's less wood. I'm having new wood put on them and having them refinished so I just went with those. One of the guys working there said that Anniston gets the better condition rifles and sends them the rest. The barrel's on all of them I looked at had lots of muzzle wear, but some of them looked decent (ie bore not rusted, pitted.) It's really the luck of the draw on how they will shoot. The guys said that they were closing for inventory this weekend, so you should give them a call to see when they are shut down. |
Where do the mail orders come from? |
The North Store was the only game in town till a few months ago when the South Store opened. Both stores have very similar inventory, and the quality is going down as the weeks go by. |
I was at CMP South this past Saturday. All they had left was Greek field and rack grades, and naked Danes. They also had 8 or 9 Springfield reparked barreled receivers and a glass case full of stripped receivers made by Winchester, H&R, and Springfield. |
No more service grades???? Why do they advertise them on their website? |
They have service grades, but they don't have them for sale in the stores. Mail only. |

I thought they weren't currently taking service grade orders until they catch up. Apparently they're not finding enough in what they are processing that meet the service grade catagory. IIRC they will reopen the service grade orders when they clear the backlog and find sufficient numbers. SoS PS I'm glad I got one when I did! If it were me and I didn't have one yet, I'd order a usgi field grade for the money still a good buy. If money was no object I'd get a correct. |
