Are there any left-handed shooters out there that shoot these C&R bolt guns? I am left-handed but I have never fired a right-handed bolt action rifle before. I am in the process of buying a Yugo M48A and I just wondered what it will be like shooting from the left side. I won't be doing any rapid fire with it, if I have to do that I'll grab the AR. I am assuming I'll be operating the bolt like Pvt. Jackson did in "Saving Private Ryan" with the Springfield.

BTW, does the old Mauser kick like a mule? That steel buttplate looks pretty sinister.

It'll shoot just fine.

My Rem 700 rifles are all right-handed, shot left handed.

My Mosin-Nagant is right handed, which I shoot lefty, (btw - your Mauser should have even less of a kick than the 7.62x54R and yes it has a steel butt plate also)

YMMV, but unlike Pvt. Jackson, I work the action on my right-handed bolt rifles w/ my right hand.

Thanks Mike. I will try different ways just to see what's most comfortable to me. I am anxious for that Yugo to arrive.

Fellow southpaw checking in!

Of course straight bolt handles are easier to operate than bent ones, but it's really a matter of practice and getting used to it. Trust me, cycling the action while leaving the rifle butt on your shoulder will become second nature in no time.

Mausers sure kick hard, but again, you'll get used to it rather quickly if you shoot regularly. Most of the stories are just talk to scare the newbies, anyway...

Here's a pic of me shooting my spanish FR8:

Cool! I actually thought about getting something with a straight bolt handle, but that Yugo M48 looks so nice.

I'm a stubborn bastard about my bolt guns. If it does not come in a LH version, they don't need my money.

When I was a kid I did shoot some RH bolt action 22s without much of a problem.
Also, my semi-autos are RH and I shoot them without a problem.

Natural right hander but defective right eye so shoot from left shoulderhoot  Lee Enfield bolt handle is turned down and not easy to reach over scope to work with left. Been shooting so long now from left, holding right handed doesn't feel right.  No problems shooting the AR from left.  Good luck with the Mauser when it arrives.

straight handle mausers, mosin nagants and schmidt rubins are easy for left handers. the extra torque i can exert on a mosin bolt handle helps a lot with stiff actions.

some yugo mausers come with straight bolts. if yours doesnt, you can buy one and install it yourself.

I'm a lefty who has only owned one left handed bolt action in my life.  I currently own about 35 milsurp bolt action rifles.  Not a big issue to me.  BTW,, I shoot a pistol, swing a baseball bat, write and golf right handed.  I shoot rifles, shotguns and pool left handed.  I'm so confused.

Try a Swiss K31. One of the guys I shoot with is a lefty. He can slap the bolt on his K31 so fast it looks like a semi-auto.

Very good build quality and Aim Surplus has them for $106. BSW

+1 for the Swiss K31.  St. Marie has developed a LH follower (bolt handle) for the K31.  They had some mix-up when applying for a patent so it is taking a bit longer to start production.
