My first C&R purchase should be here on the 27 a walnut stocked K-31 from AIM.  Do I have to have the head space checked.  I called my gun smith and he doesnot have a gauge for this caliber.
Thanks

Personally I wouldn't worry about it.  The K31 is one of the most uniformly perfect rifles from year to year over the entire run of k31s.  I'd almost bet you couldn't find a bolt that took it out of spec for headspace.  I only have 4 K31s and 1 K11 to test my theory, but I'm not worried.  Just shoot it..... if it makes you feel better aim it down range and shield your face away from receiver for the first shot.

I'll bet you LOVE it!!!!!

Agreed.  Especially if the bolt serial number matches the receiver.  The Swiss didn't mess around when it came to quality.

Like everyone has said, it's very very unlikely it would need to be headspaced checked.

I had an example of probably one of the worst condition K31's I've seen or heard about.  Got it from AIM on the $59 shooter special a while back.  The entire thing was caked in Rust, even the bolt.  The wood was damaged, dented and scuffed so bad, I could hardly tell it was a beech stock.

I spent about a week cleaning it up, and refinishing the metal and wood.  this is how it came out:

It didn't even cross my mind, even in the condition it came in, whether or not it was shootable.  The bore was in good, not perfect condition.  there was a small amount of frosting towards the end of the bore.  I did feel it's groups wouldn't be as tight though.  Took it to the range, put 2 rounds of GP11 into a 50 yard target, and it kept a 1" or less group at 50 yards.  I think that speaks well for the rifle, despite how bad of condition it came in.

Compare a fired case with an unfired one.  If you see anything strange you need to investigate further.
