mine is too. I have a 91/30.  Copper wash cases are easier to operate than the laquer ones.

I think it's a fairly common problem.  I don't know of a way to loosen it up.

I have heard about people going as far as having to kick the bolt open at times. The only things I can think of to try are:

Clean the chamber really well may have baked on cosmo in it.
If shooting old wolf maybe built up lacquer.
Try diffrent ammo.
Bad Ammo?

I am no expert so maybe some one else has something to offer??

Is there any deforming of the cases?

I'm not an expert,  but check out this site,

http://www.russian-mosin-nagant.com/sticking_bolt.htm
Its pretty common when using lacquerd ammo from what I hear.
Hope this helps, if the link doesnt work just do a search on Google for Mosin Nagent bolt sticking .

mine is very sticky even when there is no round in the chamber.  It's got something to do with the bolt being cocked or not.  If it is cocked, it is very easy to open, if not, like after a round is fired or after dry-firing, it is much harder to open.

I have a very ammo picky M38 as well. I expirenced the same problems as you. I took a drill and shotgun bore brush (.410) and ran it down the chamber area. Still, didnt do it. So, I just stick to the NON-corrosive BRASS cased ammo, like the Bosnian Hotshot, it feeds it fine and loves it. Although, after firing 20 rounds my shoulder is very sore.

You might try the drill motor and shotgun brush (20ga perhaps) along with some brake cleaner or hit it with some 400 then 600 grit sandpaper.  I did this to my M44 and 91/30 before I took them out for the first time and I don't have any sticking problems with either.

IIRC, a sticky bolt after firing can be an indicator of bad head space.

Big plus one on this, however if it only happens with the laquer cases and not brass case stuff,it is probably not headspace.Being that they headspace off the rim, different makes of ammo will have different thickness of rims which will affect how the bolt opens after it is fired.

I been shoting Nagents for years it's just the nature of the beasts . It a prety sloppy action . The camming action isnt "cammed" to western standards . Thats all I know I could be wrong . RL

I shot 50rds thru my 9130 a couple weeks ago.  Only once was the bolt hard to operate.  The rest of the time it required very little effort.  I used Albanian ammo.
