Do you have to belong to CMP to get one of their guns for sale?  I've looked at their list of clubs, and it seems they are mostly junior clubs in my area.

From the CMP FAQ:

How do I become a member of the CMP?

At this time there is no direct membership in the CMP. Membership is through one of our affiliated clubs or organizations. There are currently over 1800 affiliated organizations. All of our shooting events are accessible to anyone regardless of their affiliation or club membership, but to purchase anything from the CMP, an individual must show proof of belonging to an affiliated club or organization.

I would suggest joining the Garand Collectors Association... 25 bucks gets you a yearly membership and 4 GCA journals. www.garandcollector.org
The GCA also sends the CMP an updated member's list every 3 weeks or so.

When DCM ran the program, a club had to offer a jr. program to be in the DCM program and get the
loaner M1' s and the .22 target rifles and the 30-06 and .22 ammo from the DCM for the cost of
shipping it to the club.  The club I'm in bought the rifles from the DCM when the program folded and the DCM became the CMP. Got them at a good price too!
That is why you may see a lot of Jr. programs mentioned in gun clubs, and the Jr's are the future of
shooting.
