Made my first M44 range trip today.  Between getting there first thing in the morning and the fact that it was raining I had the range to myself.  I started out with a square of red duct tape on a piece of white butcher paper at the 50 yard line to see where this rifle was hitting.  I wanted to adjust the sights to shoot with the bayonet closed.

I installed an Uncle Mikes slip-on recoil pad and for a little more insurance I took my knit cap off, flattened it out and slipped it into my jacket over my right shoulder.  I figured this little rifle was going to be a handful off the bench with the 174gr yellow tip ammo I had.

I loaded up one round and placed my sights on the target at the 50 yard line.  I touched off the shot and was really grateful for the recoil pad and cap under my shirt and I might want to consider sunglasses for that fireball!

My first round was about three inches to the left so I drifted the sight to the left until I was hitting the tape.  I loaded up a full magazine of five and started in on a fresh little piece of tape and the rounds grouped into two inches.  I moved out to the hundred yard line where I tweaked the sight again until I could hit a pie plate with most shots.

For my last ten rounds I took the hat out from under my shirt and used just the slip-on pad while shooting offhand standing.  This rifle is an excellent plinker.  I hit just about all targets I aimed at out to about 50 yards.  The pad and my jacket was enough to tame the recoil, as by this time I had shot eighty rounds of this ammo and half as many 8mm Turk through an M48 I needed to sight in too.

I love this little carbine.  It’s a blast…literally.

Nice rifle, and very nice bike. I love my 91/59 carbine. It had been a while since I shot it last, and then I went out with some friends. I had always shot from the bench before, and it hurt, but we went out and shot from a standing, "plinking" position. My friend (6' something big guy) and I had no problems, and even his girlfriend (5'6'' maybe 125 wet) enjoyed the thing. We put about 60 rounds through it, and no one was sore at all.

You should look into the muzzle breaks they have for these now.  I have a M38, and had to get a recoil pad, and am waiting for my AK74 style compensator to install to come in the mail.
