| I picked up an unissued Egyptian Mauser at a local shop, mostly to add to the collection but also to shoot once in a while. I compared it side by side with one of the Mitchells and aside from some of the markings and the overall more pretty factor of the Mitchell, I couldn't find a whole lot of difference. Took it out of the box, gave it a good cleaning and took it to range with a box of Federal just to see what it would do. I was pleasently surprised at the fit, finish and functionality. Accuracy was pretty good off the irons at 100 meters and I think that this will be more of a shooter and less of a wall hanger than I originally thought. Has anyone done any accurizing work on these ? |
| Of course the Egyptian IS a Yugo...just made for a different contract. If you already have Yugo's you then realize what a great bargain you got...these things are GREAT inexpensive hunting rifles, and with proper ammo most will shoot 1 1/2 inch gropups at 100 meters easily...mine both shoot 2" with open sights and cheap surplus ammo. Most like the heaver bullets...190 to 198 grains. As many of the Yugos as there are around, these rifles are still a "sleeper" if you ask me, and should garner more attention, at least from hunters. I dropped two whitetails already with mine, 8mm is a devastating hunting round, in fact I switched away from the Remington Power Point, because it damaged too much meat! Even a heart shot, caused the bullet to fragment and sent nice size chunks of lead that blew holes into the front right quarter. I can see why the Europeans hunted big game in Africa with these things pre-war. The workmanship on mine is very very good, beautiful wood and bluing...foe $150 from Mitchell, I could't go wrong. I know alot of people on this site have slammed Mitchell, but they always treated me very well. God choice! Good luck! |

As said above, it is a Yugo. I have never found a Yugo that needed accurizing. I have done somestock inletting on a few that string if shot too fast, but all will shoot minute of clay pigeon at 100M and minute of milk jug at 200M with cheap turk ammo and open sights. Better ammo gets better groups. I would advise against any American made ammo in this caliber if you want its true effect. It is very under loaded. |
