| Hey, first time on this forum so I dont know if im in the right place. I've got 2 questions about a mauser98k, main german rifle used in WWII and WWI. First: if I were to get one should I shoot it? and Second if I have 2 unfired straight from the factory 98ks with everything they came with, I mean even the caps for the barrel tips, how much would they be worth? Im not sayin Im gonna sell em but Id just like to know? Anybody know? |

The Mauser 98 from WWI is different from the K98 of WWII. If you get one, shoot the hell out of it. Ammo is dirt cheap right now, but it won't be for long. If you have unfired from the factory Muasers do not shoot them. Get an insurance policy on them as they are worth up to 3K. Not to sound condecending, but I doubt your rifles are "unfired from the factory". If they are, you are a lucky man. (are they the metal muzzle caps or the rubber caps?) |
| The Yugoslav mdl.38 is not a German 98K. If the 98 or mdl.38 Mausers have the Yugoslavian crest they were issued to the Serb/Yugo army. As a collectable they're subsets to the 98 mauser. What makes them both have more value is if the serial #s are matching. Remember that the Zastava and Red Star factory complex was bombed by the U.S.during the war. That alone would make them more valuable than the standard German 98. |
There is no Yugo model 38 Mauser. If you mean 48, their value has not increased any since the bombing. Give it another 50-75 years. Only early model Yugo Mausers have any collector value; i.e. Model 24 "short rifle" versions and before. |
