My friend just bought a bore snake for his Mosin Nagant M44 carbine. I'm trying to tell him that the bore snake is something that you use for at the shooting range or the field, but you still need to clean with the rod and patches when you get home. He won't believe me. What do you guys think?

Unless he's soaking the bore snake in Windex he won't have any bore left!

He doesn't shoot corrosive ammo, just Wolf or Olympic. Now he is saying, "I never said that I didn't need the rod and patches after I got home!!" Oh boy, he just can't admit that he was wrong I guess.

Hickboy- Either way, you've saved a rifle from a slow death..

Good job.

Unless you shoot corrosive primers a bore snake will do fine.  The only reason to scrub the bore is to get rid of copper plating over corrosive salts.  With no corrosive salts it's not necessary to get rid of the copper, it's self limiting.

Get up over 10,000 rounds and you may have to scrub the barrel though.

Meplat, thank you . Chuck, you should see the bore of this rifle. It is sick!! Unbelievable amounts of copper. He just bought a bottle of Sweet's (I didn't know this until yesterday) and he says he is getting patch after patch of blue. He says it won't stop comming. I made sure he cleaned all of his cleaning equipment after exposing it to Sweets. I'm going to have to see what I can do with it...

I use the bore snake AFTER the rod & patches. After about 4 or so patches comming out ever-so-slightly dirty I abandon the rod in frustration to the snake.
