Anyone recommend a place for cheap mags? Noticed 44mag doesn't seem to carry any Savage magazines.
Already have a cheap bipod ordered and picked up a half-off BSA Sweet 22 3-9x40 scope. Do these typically tend to do well w/ most 22lr ammo or are they picky? Will see how much I like the economy setup and see if I'll eventually wanna put more into it, but for now just aiming for a budget solid 50yd tack driver. =] Will get some pics up as my mounting rings and other stuff arrive. |

I just bought one also.
I bought my mags at Brownells. Everyone I found seemed to be the same price so I bought based on shipping, which I already was buying a bunch of crap anyway. BTW, I bought the same scope also, I like it so far. Haven't shot mine yet, but if you go into the Savage Mark II thread, there are some discussions on ammo. |

Mags ordered. Got my scope mounted, but while I was attaching my bipod to the sling adapter on the factory stock the sling mount pulled right out. |

Mine is very picky. It only likes 1k-1100 FPS ammo in 40gr. It will shoot anything but if you want accuracy. Stick with CCI SV or anything around 1050 FPS. |

Will get pics when I get my stock back. Savage received it Monday, hopefully with it being a plain replacement I may luck out and get it back by end of the week.
Anyone have ETAs on simple part replacements, the CSR I spoke to said package it up, provide required info and send it out, outside of knowing that they received it I don't know what's going on. =] |

The plate around the mag on those is stupidly weak. You can buy aftermarket plates that allow you to put proper torque on the screw. I made mine. I use 20 inch pounds on that screw. Prolly not gonna replace any hardware on it unless I decide to replace the stock ETC. The DIP kits look to be pretty damn beefy in comparison to Savage's factory mag plate. Other than Boyds are there any other reasonably priced aftermarket stock makers? Not after a thumbhole style, just standard(prefer wood) rifle stock w/ decent cheek rest would be more my style. |

The DIP plate will help you get to driving tacks faster than without it. That is why I mentioned it. |

This is my first bolt gun and didn't really pay attention when removing the receiver/barrel from the stock before I sent it back in. |

Just not secure enough for me. I can't believe they did that. |

Get my factory stock back Thursday. Finally get to hit the range this weekend. My buddy picked up a Marlin XT22 and a Savage Mark II BV to also take out, hope the sun comes out and warms us up a bit.
From everything I've read, it looks like Boyd's has the best aftermarket wood stock w/ solid cheek rise height on it, am I missing any others? If I do go the Boyd's Tacticool route, outside of the DIP plate/trigger guard is there anything else I'm missing? I see some have bedded it and others have went w/ plastic pillar(tube) to help keep the stress off the apparently soft/weak points in the Tactical stock. ETA: Can my FVSR shoot 22 long(not long rifle). I've found some CCI 22 long that won't load in my 22/45 and have no real use for it. Am guessing the bolt action may have the best chance out of all my rimfire guns. |

I hate CTD, but they got them cheap.

I like Joe Bob's a lot better than CTD. http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/SAVAGE_20005_MAGAZINE_FOR_MODEL_MK_II_RIMFIRE_22_L_p/sav20005.htm |

Replacement stock took longer than expected, didn't get it in time to take it out this past weekend. Anyone recommend a cheek-riser? Eying the one from SpecOps Brand.
Will try and get some pics over the weekend. |

Finally made it to the range this weekend. Was having scope issues at first, but once those were all ironed out it tightened up nicely. Hope the weather lets me take it out again before the year's end. Groups at 50 yds. Bolt guns are very relaxing. http://i.imgur.com/KBOFYors.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/4Ag3Coms.jpg Get wolf mt and you can keep them in the center dot. |
| Shot mainly w/ Wolf Match Target or Aguila Super Velocity(both 40gr). Next trip I'll be sure to keep track of what rounds were used on which target. Was my first time sighting in a scope and bolt-action; really hoping the colder weather holds out for a few more weeks. |
