A LGS has a few of them, I am kicking around the idea of picking one up. However I am not really interested in something that someone drilled for whatever scope/sights they wanted. I found one that looks like it may be unmolested, but I am unsure. Was there a variant that had a flat machined into the left side of the receiver to mount a site?

Yes, there is a factory "target" version with a peep sight rear and no dovetail cut on the barrel for a sight.

Some variants of the 69A had a Lyman 57EW rear peep sight. Go to Rimfirecentral.com and then to the Wichester section. A whole lot of info on the 69 and 69A (aka "the poor man's 52").

There was also a "Match" version with a much better Redfield peep. Google winchester 69a match.
