KICKS ASS!!!!!  On July 14th I mailed my order for a Kimber 82G.  Today I get the email notifiying me it's been sent, and I'll have it tomorrow.  I know that they're awesome and my past dealings (3 Garands) with them have been great, but DAMN, they're really outdone themselves on speed this time.

Now for that case of Aguila...

Aren't those supposed to be rusty? I heard the rust isn't as bad as they make it out to be. Make sure you post pics.

K,
Got it today and here's some crappy pics.  A buch of that red, gritty preservative, but I really don't think it's rust.  Now, how best to clean it?

And your method is?

I use extra fine steel wool with a lot of oil.

Rub it no harder than you would your face, because you don't want to harm the bluing.

If that scares you a GI toothbrush with oil is a good start.

Very nice!

I've long intended to get one of those but always ended up walking out with another M1 instead.

Maybe the next time I'm up Anniston way...

yes, that is rust.  Oil and 0000 steel wool should do the trick.  Rub lightly until it is gone.

I've had good luck with this for surface rust.  It also nukes carbon on revolvers, cleans my stainless 44 beautifully.

Ok, so I hit the bolt with some brake cleaner and everything just washed away.  I've still got to detail strip the bolt to be thorough though.  Today Im going to take the rifle out of the stock and work on it.  If the rest is like the bolt, it's that nasty dried preservative.  I checked out the stuff on the sights, and it brushes off with a very light touch of the finger and feels grainy.

Alright,
So I didn't get a chance to take the rifle out of the stock, but I did detail strip the bolt.  It was spotless....I mean immaculate.  So far all the rust has been that dried crudded up preservative.  Sometime this week I'll get to the rifle and the sights, but now I'm more hopeful.
