I have been out of shooting 22's for awhile in favor of 17hmr.

However I bought each of my younger daughter's a 10/22 for Christmas. I have a bunch of bulk pack 22 I have bought over the years, but not really any target ammo. We like shooting longer ranges with scopes and was thinking about ordering some target stuff.

What is considered good stuff for shooting a little father out? When I buy commercial ammo instead of loading my own for center fire, federal gold medal has always been excellent. How is their 22 target? I see it is pricey, but does it shoot well?

Gold medal shoots well, but not as consistently well in 22s as it shoots in centerfires.

Try a variety of match ammos, Wolf Match, Eley.  Some will shoot bugholes with lesser ammo, but 22s can be picky.

accuracy to my 10/22 came from mods to the rifle, and not directly from the ammo selection...good trigger... bolt headspace and limiting firing pin vertical movement is critical...mounting the scope directly to the barrel with a cantilever mount...this is older information as I shot the Chevy STC for only 4 years... (95-98)  we tried Federal Gold Medal Ultra, 900A/B, 711... Eley... Green Tag.. Lapua...the "exotic" ammo was a little hard to get locally, so I decided to tune the barrel for the ammo that my M41 liked... with Winchester Super X it would shoot under 1" at 100y off a rest with a simple harmonic tuner... 1 1/4" aluminum round stock... .930" hole... cross pinch bolt... shoot a group and move the balancer slightly... you could see the groups open and close...
