I recently purchased a Ruger 10/22 and looking for a cheap red dot to have some fun with while it retains zero , so any recommendations?

Primary Arms has the micro and an Aimpoint clone of the ML2.   I used 30 MM Simmons red dots which are cheap but reliable for me.  Vortex Sparc get good reviews and I like my Strikefire.

Bushnell TRS 25 if you don't have astigmatism...

Mueller Quick Shot for a reflex type. Have two of them and they work great. (Buy a cheaper version called a Sightmark Sure Shot to see if you like this type of red dot. I have one on a pistol for two years and have not had to adjust the zero).

+1 for the Vortex SPARC. Tube type and very sturdy. Comes with a 2 magnifier and a couple of mounting spacers.

Higher end and popular tube type is the UltraDot. Used by a lot of competition shooters.

If you can spend more, do. But this is a decent sight for the money (if you can live with a 5 MOA dot).

Save up the green stamps and get an Ultradot Matchdot.  Worth every penny.  Or you could go cheap like a Bushnell or Tasco.

I have an NCStar version of that. It has actually held up pretty well to my surprise.
I've used it on a .22 pistol, my 10/22 and my MP15/22.
Never had to adjust the zero  after its been sighted in.

From what I've heard about NCStar, mine must of been a fluke.

I also have this one. Its beat to hell, but keeps chugging along.
It works great for plinking.
It's on my 10/22 nowadays.

PA Micro Red Dot - small, light, works well in my experience.

No complaints with my Bushnell TRS 25. I read god things about PA Micro's and you can find them on the EE but they move fast.

I've tried a few differnt red dots I had laying around, and the current "favorite" is the red dot SIG ships / used to ship out with the P556 rifles (and others).

Being that it was free and not being used helped alot it the above decision

I have a couple of Konus and they are pretty good. I like them as much as my aimpoint T-1.

They are a little darker i.e. like looking at the target with sunglasses on versus regular glasses but at $80-$100 well worth it.

Astigmatism will affect ALL red dots. Less so on Eotechs.

Also if you have had laser eye surgery will effect red dots. Again less so with Eotechs.

Burris FFII

Not cheap, but certainly not expensive.  About the price of two cheap chinese make red dots of questionable and humungo construction.

VERY small and lightweight.  Great for rimfire applications.

I've got a Tasco that has held up just fine.  It gets swapped with a 4X on one 10/22 that does double duty as youth group trainer and red squirrel blaster (prefer the scope for the latter).  Also have a R1 Micro on another 10/22.  Definitely a better unit but, depending on intended use, a $40 dot will serve just fine.  Kids in youth group can't tell the difference.  Sam

I also really like mine. I have it on my SW MP15/22. Great optic for the money.

I've had great experience with several PA RDS, to the point I wouldn't bother with other inexpensive brands for a rimfire.

Primary Arms is top notch, affordable, and fast shipping.

Plus, they are a site sponsor!

The two best options under $100 are the Bushnell TSR25 and Primary Arms Mirco

Works 100%, as well as the Blackdog mags. There is a little front to back play in the AR lower mag well but if you do as I did and adhere a small section of Velcro (loop side) to
the rear upper spine of the mag it fits snug and lock in perfectly. I am running a New Frontier polymer lower with a CMMG .22 upper.

Yes, you got lucky, please don't recommend those fucking things :(  I took some random ass 'works fer me!' advice on those fucking things when i got into shooting and so i have a POS truglo reflex that flickers every time it's fired.  Only ever used on a .22 buckmark.  The truglo got better reviews than the ncstar, LOL.
sorry if i come across harshly, i just really wish i had that 80$ back...

Oh, you're not being harsh at all. I didn't mean to recommend it, I was just showing my utter surprise that mine actually works.

Your post also showed me that I forgot to add in my actual recommendation, the Bushnell TRS25.
It has worked wonderfully on my MP-15/22.

I have a S.P.O.T MK III that I ran on an M4 before I ponied up for my Eotech that is really a good optic. I read a torture test review on them and have had zero problems. It now rides on my tactical rigged gauge and has no issues with the recoil of mag 12 ga rounds. It's Korean made and is the same as the Burris but with a smaller 3 moa dot ( which IMHO is preferable). I think you'll like it.
